You can't discuss "stonks" without first discussing why it's humorous in the first place: it's a goofy way of saying "stocks." Similar dramatic mispronunciations have been around for a long time in meme culture. The amusing pronunciation is part of (if not the whole) humor, and it adds brevity to the notion of stocks and money in general. The genuine, graphic "stonks" meme shows "Meme Man," a smooth, bald replica of a 3D human head that supposedly appeared on 4chan and propagated online in the latter part of the 2010s. The stonks meme dresses up Meme Man in a suit, sets him against a blue backdrop of various percentages, arrows, and numbers, and juxtaposes him against the word "stonks" with an orange arrow pointing vaguely up.
