I enjoy parody films and have seen and own a number of them, particularly those starring the late and fantastic Leslie Neilson, such as the previous Scary Movies. The previous four are fantastic; they're funny, and you can have a good time watching them. Laughter abounds. This one, on the other hand, not so much. It had its moments, but overall it was just a mediocre film. It lacked the engaging action and comedy that you've come to expect from the previous films, and it just didn't do anything for me. I like Charlie Sheen as an actor, and he can play some comedic roles, and this was no exception, but it kind of petered out after that. I believe this is due to the absence of the previous cast. I believe that if all of the previous actors had been included, it would have been a fantastic film.
In a post-credits scene, Sheen awakens from a dream extraction, with Dom Kolb sitting beside him, implying that the entire film was a dream. A car crashes into the room after Kolb informs Sheen that he will be sleeping with Lohan. Sheen is killed. In the end, this fifth opus demonstrates how quickly his absence is felt, and one suspects that he will be dsintressed very quickly. Furthermore, it is a rare good sign when there is only the btisier of the gnrique at the end (8 minutes) that is enjoyable to the detriment of the rest of the film. Scary Movie V has recently dominated the Netflix charts. The parody franchise has been around since 2000, when it was created to mock Scream. That first film made references to everything from The Matrix to Amistad. Scary Movie films have parodied everything from The Exorcist to Million Dollar Baby in the years since. Scary Movie V is no exception, so did you catch every movie reference Scary Movie V has to offer? Despite the broad nature of the humor, some of the references are quite specific.
I could go on and on about how bad the acting was or how flat the jokes were, but I'm not writing a book. Which is unfortunate because this is a film I've been looking forward to as a fan of Wiz and Snoop, as well as a fan of stoner comedies. However, good stoner comedies have characters that you like and care about. I don't mind if Mac and Devin don't graduate (or for that matter DIE).
