This isn't the first time something in Beyond Light has irritated fans of the series. Many Destiny 2 players are already dissatisfied with the new expansion due to the sunsetting of many exotics. However, for some, this disregard for a beloved and interesting character felt like a slap in the face. SteelPaladin1997 posted:
For the past week, Destiny fans have been furiously posting to message boards and creating Reddit threads, venting, posting theories, and determining where to direct their rage. They've been doing it for months, of course, but the difference now is that they're mad because Bungie's developers want them to be. Cayde-6 will perish, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Over the years, the Pokmon franchise has inspired some incredibly impressive fanart, including mind-blowing crossovers (for better or worse). With this adorable crossover Destiny 2 Pokmon fanart, the latest mashup brings the Vanguard into the fray. The Destiny Vanguard has officially become cuter than ever before, thanks to the incredibly talented @LostThingy. Look at that tiny Cayde-6 Pikachu slurping those noodles as if he hadn't been brutally murdered in cold blood. Better times...
Last week's official Destiny blog post began, "This week at Bungie, we revealed Cayde's fate."
Many players were initially skeptical that Cayde would actually die, let alone stay dead. (There are still plenty.) After all, Destiny takes place in a fantasy universe full of gods with otherworldly powers and unlikely resurrections. Cayde-6 is also a synthetic Exo, or a human consciousness inhabiting a man-made body. Could he be rebuilt as Cayde-7?
