Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury most recently directed the revival of Leatherface, but Inside, released in 2007, is their masterpiece of fear. The film is a forerunner of the hard-core violence that characterized the New French Extremity cinema trend of the mid-aughts (also see: High Tension, Irrversible). It revolves on a bereaved widow who spends her last night alone before a planned birth inducement. But first, she must survive the night as a mysterious lady attempts to corner her and extract the baby from her body. Inside is very frightening, blood-soaked, and extremely difficult to see. Expectant mothers (and everyone else) should approach with extreme care. Gratitude (2009)
Whisper (2007) Universal 16 of 25 As a quartet of ne'er-do-wells kidnap an affluent family's son, only to discover that they've caught a Damien, this deftly written supernatural thriller plays like "Ransom" meets "The Omen." The frightening tyke has a knack for going into people's thoughts and instilling a desire to murder. MPI 17 of 25 Home Movie (2009) This incredibly hilarious killer kid film, filmed in a POV "home movie" manner, depicts the tale of a husband and wife who, despite their best attempts, end up producing two terrible, horrible children.
Ju-On: The Grudge, 2004s is an American remake of the 2002 Japanese film Ju-On: The Grudge. The Grudge was a horrific story of a Japanese family being killed by the father, with the whole family subsequently becoming vengeful ghosts that strive to murder anybody who enters their house. Toshio (Yuya Ozeki), the family's eight-year-old son, is one of those spirits. He watched his father cracking his mother's neck and was subsequently killed in the bathtub by his loving old father. Toshio's corpse was hidden in a cupboard by his father. Years later, he is found by Karen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) in the same closet, which has been taped shut and seems to be alive. Then, from above, he casts a creepy glance at Karen. He just stares. He seems to be a creepy-but-cute youngster in this moment, but later we see him in his real, ghostly form, with pale skin and black-rimmed eyes, making bizarre meowing noises and murdering people.
