Grisha Yeager and Dina Fritz[36] were plotting to overthrow the Marley government and restore the Eldians to power when Zeke Yeager was born. [37] Grisha was among the rebels when the Marley government announced the Warrior program, which asked for Eldian children aged five to seven to serve as potential Warriors in exchange for the title of Honorary Marleyans and freedom within the country. [38] Grisha then decided to enroll Zeke in the program as a spy for his cause. At home, Zeke was frequently sent to his grandparents while both Dina and Grisha attended Eldian Restorationist meetings, with the majority of his visits consisting of listening to his grandfather recount stories of the Eldian race's crimes against the world. [39] His parents' preoccupation with the Eldian Restorationists caused them to grow increasingly distant from Zeke over time, with Grisha in particular showing little interest in his son's life outside of his studies and performance as a Warrior candidate.

Kruger bestowed the Attack Titan upon Grisha as the Curse of Ymir approached, hoping that their fight for freedom could continue. Grisha sat on his Attack Titan until the night he stole the Reiss family's Founding Titan. Grisha's Attack Titan has Eren's pointy ears and hair growth, but he has a much stockier frame, which is unusual because Grisha's human body isn't any bulkier than his adult son's.
