Wolf is a Creator Deity to the Shoshone. Wolf Clans were also common, and not only among Cherokee. The Lenape and Shawnee celebrate the Wolf with a ceremonial Wolf Dance. While believing in a person's capacity to draw on the strength and energy of an Animal ally is not exclusive to Wolf, many Native cultures consider Wolf to be one of the most significant Animals with whom they communicate and connect in ceremonial and ritual. Wearing a wolf's pelt is one method for Native cultures to form an alliance with and connect with Wolf Medicine.
