Mahiro Takasugi plays Ryota in the live action version. While he remains in the background, he is more talkative and frequently comments on events, usually speaking directly to the viewers. Because of the clash between his pragmatic attitude and Yumeko's eccentric behavior, he's usually a source of comic relief. During some episodes, he was given more significance: he is the one who saves Yumeko from Jun Kiwatari (taking Midari's place) by pretending that a council member is just around the corner and will get them. He can also see their game on a monitor in the school.
