And I wouldn't mind seeing such modifications. Yamucha (and most of the other characters) were in severe need of character development. I think the notion that Yamucha had encountered death and how it had affected his view on life was a pretty intriguing concept, and it did produce a certain degree of pathos. But that's not the reason it's there. It's so blatantly evident that it's solely there to make him seem unwanted and worthy of being abandoned and pushed to the side. Also, I'm not sure what that has to do with whether or not they fought all the time, but maybe you were responding to the issue as a whole.
Future Trunks said that he had long exceeded his father while practicing with him in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, but he was too afraid to show Vegeta his strength since he was afraid Vegeta would despise him for it. Trunks didn't want to break Vegeta's delicate relationship at the moment since he was an extremely prideful guy who only cared about himself. However, this proved to be Trunks' undoing, for if Trunks told Vegeta how great his Super Trunks form was, Vegeta may have revealed to his son the weakness that the form obviously provided Trunks. The young Saiyan ignored speed and instead focused only on power, which Vegeta did not produce. Since a consequence, Vegeta would most likely win a combat between the two back then, but only because of speed, as Trunks' sheer power outweighed his father's.
It seems understandable that Vegeta would not want to merge with Goku, but seeing that Buu has absorbed Bulma is enough to convince Vegeta to give up his individuality for the sake of his life. Of course, heâs already dealing with his rivalry with Goku at this point in the plot, but Bulmaâs presence is significant. 4 Vegeta Refuses To Leave Bulma's Side During Bra's Birth
While it's never directly mentioned, it's safe to believe that mating with other species is frowned upon in the Saiyan culture. After all, it's a proud species that sees everyone else as weak and pitiful. When Nappa and Vegeta landed on Earth, he even considered mixing with humans to create an army of hybrids. Vegeta's response to this proposition revealed a lot, since he was nauseated by the prospect of mixing with another species. Perhaps this is due to his royal ancestry, but it's reasonable to suppose that this thought is somewhat forbidden among Saiyans, particularly among the elite. But, as we all know, Vegeta ultimately forgot about it...
