As a former art instructor, I saw firsthand how pupils were often unclear about how and where to begin their sketching assignments. That perplexity often led to frustration, or sometimes the decision not to sketch at all. It seemed to me that there must to be a better way to share simple sketching ideas for kids, but it took some time to find out how. For a short time, direct sketching instructions on the front board worked, although it had limits. There was also the matter of tempo. Some pupils preferred to go at a quicker pace, while others preferred to travel at a slower pace. It kept the entire thing feeling a little frantic, both for me and for them.
